Most businesses understand the importance of deploying an effective data protection solution. Decision-makers typically try to implement a comprehensive data protection platform that safeguards the complete environment, including on-premises, cloud-based, and endpoint resources. The predominance of the mobile workforce has made protecting endpoints more important than ever before.

Unfortunately, the data protection software landscape is dynamic. What was once a trusted solution may be sunset for several reasons. A vendor can decide that continued support for a backup and recovery product does not fit with its evolving business model. Software companies may purchase a platform, but choose to focus on just specific features or functionality.

Organizations must quickly pivot to address the loss of their data protection solution, regardless of the reason for its impending unavailability. The failure to respond by researching and implementing a new platform exposes the business to unnecessary risks.

Incydr/Code42 is Sunsetting its Legacy Endpoint Backup Tool

Incydr/Code42 is a combination of two software products that protect enterprise data using different methods. Incydr is an insider risk and data protection tool, while Code42 is an endpoint data protection add-on. Mimecast acquired the platform from Code42 Software, Inc. in July 2024.

Mimecast has decided to sunset the Code42 legacy backup portion of this data protection platform. The company has set the following end-of-lifetime timeline for the Code42 backup add-on.

  • New sales or renewals ceased on December 31, 2025.
  • Support services for existing customers will continue through the end of 2026.
  • The product’s backup add-on functionality ends on December 31, 2026, and all backup archives will be deleted after this date.

Companies that use Incydr/Code42 must find a new solution that protects their endpoint data going forward. They must also take the necessary steps to migrate legacy archives to a new platform. These archives may contain regulated data that cannot simply be discarded and recreated by a new backup cycle. Businesses must carefully evaluate the contents of their data archives to determine whether they need to be migrated to a new platform to meet the required retention parameters.

The Benefits of Druva’s Advanced Data Protection Platform

Druva has been named a leading backup and data protection platform by Gartner in their 2025 Magic Quadrant report. It provides customers with a cloud-native solution powered by advanced technology. The platform addresses the requirements modern businesses must meet to protect their complex IT environments. The following highlights of Druva’s data protection and management solution illustrate its benefits for companies of all sizes.

Scalability that future-proofs your data protection solution

Druva’s cloud-based nature enables streamlined, essentially limitless scaling that can be fine-tuned to your current and future business needs. Companies can avoid costly capital hardware expenditures for on-premises backup solutions that may be underutilized or run out of capacity without exacting capacity planning. Many business owners would rather concentrate on running core operations without worrying about their backup infrastructure. The Druva platform eliminates these concerns and can grow to meet your changing business requirements.

Cost-effectiveness to boost your bottom line

Companies that deploy a cloud-based backup solution typically enjoy substantial savings compared with businesses using legacy on-premises data protection tools. These businesses bypass the expense of purchasing and maintaining an in-house infrastructure. The savings can be used for more value-added endeavors that directly address internal operations and external customer satisfaction.

Security by design

Druva has designed its data protection platform with the security needed to address the dangers posed by internal and external threat actors. The following security features make Druva an excellent solution to address today’s challenging threat landscape.

  • Strong end-to-end encryption protects your data from unauthorized access in the event of loss or a breach. The data is useless to malicious entities without the decryption keys.
  • The platform creates air-gapped and immutable backups that cannot be deleted or corrupted by threat actors. This feature is instrumental in providing ransomware protection, as attackers often attempt to corrupt backup media to pressure victimized companies into meeting their ransom demands. Attackers cannot alter Druva’s backups, enabling teams to recover effectively from ransomware.
  • The software enforces zero-trust security to limit who can modify backup configuration or access backed-up data. This feature reduces the chances of intentional or accidental insider threats.

An AI-powered copilot

Druva’s advanced AI capabilities help teams manage the backup environment and ensure all data is protected. Its AI copilot can help resolve backup issues that may lead to data protection gaps. The tool can also make recommendations to streamline backup windows and fully protect your valuable data.

Compliance and legal support

Companies that process regulated data are subject to compliance requirements such as HIPAA and PCI DSS. These data protection and privacy standards require data to be encrypted and retained for extended time periods. Even companies not involved with healthcare or financial data may need to hold data to meet legal obligations. Druva fully supports compliance with streamlined eDiscovery and fine-grained retention policies.

VAST Has Your Back With Its Cloud Backup Service

VAST’s Cloud Backup-as-a-Service (CBaaS) offering is built on Druva’s cutting-edge data protection solution. Druva’s advanced technology forms the foundation of our managed service, which is designed to protect your entire IT environment. Our data protection experts work with you to tailor the CBaaS solution to fit your unique business requirements and safeguard all your sensitive and valuable information.

We have built our CBaaS platform to protect the four pillars of modern IT environments.

  • Enterprise endpoints: Druva protects endpoints previously backed up by Code42. Features such as invisible backup windows and self-service restores make this an excellent platform for endpoint protection.
  • Microsoft 365 and SaaS platforms: Druva provides backup functionality that goes beyond basic SaaS capabilities, which may not offer granular recovery. Automated SaaS backups are created using an incremental-forever model and long-term archiving options. Source-side deduplication reduces storage requirements, and customer-only access to data is enforced.
  • Public cloud: The platform supports flexible backup and recovery policies and protects your cloud investment with air-gapped backups and data encryption. Teams can create, schedule, and test customer disaster recovery plans.
  • Hybrid and on-premises: Our CBaaS solution is flexible enough to protect your complex hybrid and on-premises IT environments. Our team will work with you to ensure all your data is safe and secure.
